Burgundy guided or self drive culinary tours

We recommend the 8 days itinerary, however it is possible to organise a shorter stay with a minimum of 5 days (min 2 pers).

ITINERARY

DAY 1 (MONDAY)

Welcome to France! I meet you with at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport before heading to Burgundy (2 hours drive). On the way, we stop for lunch at a lovely auberge before ending our day in Flavigny sur Ozerain, a beautiful medieval village, situated on a rocky spur, surrounded by three streams. The first dinner is in a restaurant close to Flavigny and the night in a welcoming guest house in Flavigny.

 

DAY 2 (TUESDAY)

After a nice French breakfast, we walk to a sweet factory within the walls of an ancient abbey dating from 719,to discover how these delicious “anis” managed to keep same recipe over time. The lunch is to be enjoyed in a traditional ferme auberge. On the afternoon, we visit 2 other beautiful medieval villages and we dine and sleep at the bottom of one of them, in a manor.

 

DAY 3 (WEDNESDAY)

Today, we visit Dijon and many shops offering traditional products such as pain d’epice (spiced bread), mustard, local wines. The lunch takes place in a one star Michelin restaurant. Then, to digest we discover the lifestyle of Bourguignon people over centuries in a fascinating museum. The dinner is in superb restaurant managed by a young team and the youngest one star Michelin chef (26 years).  Night in a charming bed and breakfast.

 

DAY 4 (THURSDAY)

French breakfast followed by a visit and tasting in a cheesery making local cheeses (Epoisses, Brillat Savarin, Maconais, etc). After driving up the hill above Nuit Saint Georges, we arrive at a red berries farm where the owner introduces us to the flavourful traditional products they are making out of their fruits (alcohol, cream, vinegars, butters). Lunch is in a typical country-side restaurant. On the afternoon, we discover everything about truffles and even accompany a truffle dog to understand how they found this golden mushroom. The visit finishes with truffle products tasting. We finish the day with the visit of one of the oldest wine estate in the region and we obviously have a wine tasting! Free time on the evening and dinner on your own. Night in a hotel in Meursault.

 

DAY 5 (FRIDAY)

French breakfast at the hotel. After a relaxing morning in Meursault, we visit the cellar of a prestigious wine estate stocking 2000 bottles from the XIXth century, and we end the visit with a wine tasting for aperitif. Lunch is in a 15th century cellar in a restaurant! On the afternoon, we visit one of the most well-known French moutarderie. During the rest of the afternoon, free visit of Beaune. Free time and dinner on your own. Night (same hotel) in Meursault.

 

DAY 6 (SATURDAY)

Today, we experience the market in Beaune before driving to Vezelay, a defendable hill town famous for its Abbey. This village dating back to the roman period, is also known as “La Colline Éternelle”, the eternal hill. Lunch in one of the nicest restaurant of this charming village. On the afternoon, free visit of the village and Abbey. Free time and dinner on your own in Vezelay. Night in an authentic French hotel in Vezelay.

 

DAY 7 (SUNDAY)

From Vezelay, we drive to Chablis to experience its market and obviously a wine tasting in a very friendly wine estate. On the afternoon, we can explore the area on electrical bike for a panoramic tour. Dinner in a very nice restaurant. Night in a beautiful hotel in Chablis.

 

DAY 8 (MONDAY)

After a yummy French breakfast, last visit of local wine estate before heading back to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport.

 

Dates:  Tours can be organised at your own dates from end of April to December. Tours must start on Monday (arrival at Paris Charles de Gaulle) and finish on Monday (drive back to Paris airport or city centre). 

 

Total cost self drive EUR1700pp from April to June and from October to December / EUR2000pp from July to September (high season)

Total cost guided EUR2820pp from April to June and from October to December / EUR3150pp from July to September (high season)

Includes:

  • Return transportation to Burgundy from Charles de Gaulle Airport (excluded in the self drive)
  • Everyday transportation with chauffeur (me!) during the week in Burgundy (excluded in the self drive)
  • Breakfast, lunch & 4 Dinners
